Chennai Super Kings won their 3rd IPL trophy after beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the tournament by eight wickets to clinch a memorable match.

It was a terrific knock from the blade of Shane Watson which helped Chennai chase the target of 179 with utmost ease in the end. It was some excellent hitting by the former Australia all-rounder. He tore apart the Hyderabad bowling attack with disdain and remained unbeaten on a brilliant 117 off 57 deliveries.

His innings studded with 11 fours and eight hits over the fence. He smashed the Hyderabad bowlers all around Wankhede. Some of the sixes he hit were stand and delivered. Watson shared a brilliant stand of 117 runs with Suresh Raina which took Chennai close to the victory target.

In the end, Chennai chased the target down in the penultimate over. With the victory, they become the most successful team in the competition with three titles to their name. Early in the day, it was some composed batting by Sunrisers Hyderabad which helped them post a competitive total of 178 on the board. Kane Williamson, the skipper of Hyderabad, continued his rich vein of form.

He looked in fluent touch during his knock of 47. It was a sensational inning from Yusuf Pathan towards the back end of the innings which propelled Hyderabad to a score of 178 runs.

It was indeed a competitive total, but at Wankhede, it wasn’t a huge one to defend. Pathan scored a 25-ball 45 which included four fours and a couple of sixes.

The Chennai bowlers were quite impressive; Lungisani Ngidi finished with the best figures of 1/26. Rashid Khan wasn’t at his sublime best. The Chennai batsmen played him out quite brilliantly without giving any wicket.

Following their victory, the Chennai Super Kings batsman, Suresh Raina took to his Twitter handle and congratulated his team on their 3rd triumph.

“Cannot express my feelings! It’s been a wonderful season for us & a fitting finish by @ShaneRWatson33. A well-constructed innings from him today & inspiring captaincy from @msdhoni right from game one takes us to our 3rd title. A big thank you to all our supporters
