The England Test skipper, Joe Root is not losing sleep on missing out on Indian Premier League contract.

The England right-handed batsman had entered the IPL auctions for the first time this year. Root had set his base price at INR 1.5 crores.

However, Root got overlooked by all the eight franchises in the auctions. England talismanic batsman believes he is not regretting the IPL snub.

Joe Root added he is not getting frustrated while noticing other players play in the league. Indian Premier League is the best T20 league in the world, but Root was not able to make the cut into it.

“It’s not frustration watching the other guys,” Root told Sky Sports Cricket. “I went into the IPL auction to get a bit more exposure to T20 cricket, it didn’t materialize, it would have been nice to be involved in that, but I’ve got no bitter feelings towards the other guys, I think it’s great.”

English players have benefitted by playing in the IPL.

England players such, as Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are playing in the IPL. Root added both these players have benefitted by playing in the league. England Test captain hopes more English players will play in the IPL in the times to come.

“They’ll benefit hugely from it and we, as a side, will benefit hugely from it. Look at the way Jos and Ben and a few guys came back from it last year and what it has brought to their games, “ Root said.

“Hopefully, that can happen on a wider scale with more and more players going out there from English cricket, playing under scrutiny and in the high-pressure situations that the tournament brings, it can only be a good thing for us in the long term.”

Root added there would be some changes going forward in the England team. The English side recently lost the Test series against New Zealand after taking the hammering in the Ashes.

“Looking forward, there will be changes, especially long-term and then it is up to guys to come in and take the opportunities. I want us to keep searching for ways to be a really effective side in a number of different conditions,” Root added.

England will next lock horns with Pakistan in a two-Test match series in UAE which will kickstart next month.
