IPL 2018: Match 17, Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals – Statistical Highlights
Bouncing back in style from the defeat in the last game, Chennai Super Kings routed Rajasthan Royals by 64 runs to get back to winning ways. Sent in to bat first, the Super Kings rode on Shane Watson’s stunning century to post a daunting 204 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Royals were all out for a paltry 140. The visitors never looked in contention to chase down the total due to losing wickets at regular intervals.
With the game now done, here is a look at some interesting numbers from it:
1. Shane Watson scored his third century in the IPL. It made him the first player to score a century for and against two different sides in the IPL. Watson’s first century in the IPL came for Royals against Super Kings in 2013.
2. Watson became the fifth player to score three centuries in the IPL. The only two players with more IPL centuries than Watson are Chris Gayle (6) and Virat Kohli (4). AB de Villiers and David Warner have also scored three tons in the IPL.
3. Super Kings are now the proud holders of most 200-plus totals in IPL. They went past Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s tally of 13 totals of 200 and more in the IPL. This was the 3rd time CSK made 200 and more against Royals in the IPL.
4. Watson’s 106-run knock is the second highest individual score in a T20 game at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The record is held by Mumbai’s Shoaib Shaikh who scored 110 against Gujarat in 2015 Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
5. The match witnessed only the second instance of a no-ball on the very first ball of the game in IPL. Stuart Binny bowled a front foot no-ball to Shane Watson on the first ball of the match. Delhi Daredevils’ Jayant Yadav bowled no-ball to David Warner on the first ball against Sunrisers Hyderabad last year.
