Rishabh Pant, on Sunday (May 13), came out in public to clarify that he did not make any controversial comment after being ignored by the selectors for the tour of Ireland and England.

The southpaw has been in sensational form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). One of the most highly-rated players in the country, Pant is the leading run-scorer this season.

Last week, he blasted his maiden IPL ton and went on to register the highest T20 score by an Indian. The wicket-keeper’s knock of 128 not out off 63 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad took him to the top of the run scoring charts. In the following game against Royal Challengers, he scored 61 to strengthen his position at the top of the run-charts. So far, the southpaw has amassed a staggering 582 runs at an average of over 52 and a strike-rate of close to 180.

However,  inexplicably his performances this season seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The youngster failed make it to the India T20I squads for the series against England and Ireland. Last week, the selectors named 16-member ODI and T20I squads. India will face Ireland in a two-match T20I series. The Men in Blue will then take on England in 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Tests.

But Pant was a glaring miss from the T20I squad with Dinesh Karthik taking the second wicketkeeper’s place. Not surprisingly, the fans were not impressed with the selectors’ decision. And they started sharing false images with quotes showing Pant expressing his anguish over not being selected.

And just when those images started gathering attention, Pant took to Twitter to clarify things. The 20-year old made it clear that he did not make any comment. He also urged the miscreants to stop spreading rumours, tweeting:

“Just to clarify some rumours going around about my statement about not getting selected to play for india. I never said anything like that it so just giving out my clarification ?.So please stop spreading rumours and let me concentrate on my cricket ?”

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
