Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Dwayne Bravo felt they have won the coveted title when many termed the success very unlikely for the yellow brigade. After the auctions, question marks were raised over the selection of the Super Kings squad. They were criticised for picking experience over age.
However, the veteran players were able to deliver the goods for their team. The Men in Yellow ticked all the right boxes throughout the tournament to triumph their third IPL title.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team were right on the money as they won the final by eight wickets and nine balls to spare against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Team effort gave CSK their third IPL title:
“It has been good. This is a special moment. The team did not play together for the last two years. We had to move from Chennai after one game. For most of the guys, this is their first time. We were able to keep focus and do it. Nothing is better than winning finals,” Bravo said after the game as he was quoted by IANS.
Dwayne Bravo added the experience was able to do the job for them. In fact, it was the experience of batting line-up amalgamated with youth in the bowling line-up that did the job for CSK.
“We always said the experience will help in crunch times. (Shane) Watson batted on one leg and despite the hamstring, his experience helped him. Watson is a world-class player,” the Windies all-rounder added.
Furthermore, Ambati Rayudu who was the most successful Chennai batsman with 602 runs in the season was elated after the win.
In fact, Rayudu also hit the winning runs for the Chennai Super Kings.
“I was really fortunate to have such a season for Chennai. I worked really hard for it and am glad that I could hit the winning runs. Initially, the wicket looked a little slow, it was damp, got much quicker and I am glad we could chase it down,” an elated Rayudu said after the match where he hit the winning runs.
Super Kings as a unit came up with another thrilling performance.
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was dropped for the grand finale, expressed delight after being crowned as the champions.
Interestingly, this a fourth IPL title for Harbhajan Singh as he won three with Mumbai Indians (MI).
“Brilliant the way we came out and chased it down. To see what Watson, what he brings to the table, you know how many runs you might get, it is always chaseable. Fourth IPL title for me and I am glad,” Harbhajan said.
Lungi Ngidi was also one of the biggest positive for the Super Kings. The Proteas speedster was able to hit the right areas and impressed with his line and length.
“It’s been a roller coaster of emotions. Good to come away with a win and lucky to be part of an IPL winning side. Not many people get to experience such a moment. It’s lovely to have the death bowling responsibility on your shoulders and take it in your stride, one ball at a time in a pressure situation and it is great to help the team win,” Lungi said after the match.
Super Kings‘ success has always reliant on the shoulders of a team effort. Dhoni was once again able to get the best out of his players. Individuals were also able to raise their game and came up with match-winning performances.
