IPL 2019: Match 47, KKR vs MI – Twitter Reacts as Kolkata Knight Riders Beat Mumbai Indians to End their Six-Match Losing Streak
Updated - 29 Apr 2019, 02:13 AM
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended their six-match losing streak beating Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata despite some out of the world hitting from Hardik Pandya. Currently, Kolkata is in the fifth place with 10 points from 12 games, and their hopes are still on for qualifying for the playoffs.
Pandya show at Eden Gardens
Mumbai Indians succumbed to pressure in pursuit of such a massive target. They lost wickets at regular intervals and never looked in line to chase down the target. Sunil Narine provided the first breakthrough in the second over removing in-form Quinton de Kock. England-based Harry Gurney sneaked in the second wicket getting the better of Rohit Sharma, who has a good record at this ground. Andre Russell then chipped in with the bowl after his heroics with the bat to remove Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav to have Mumbai Indians at 58 for four. The wicket of Suryakumar saw the arrival of Hardik Pandya who launched a carnage at the Eden Gardens.
Since then, it was only Hardik Pandya all the entire Eden Gardens stood in a standstill while Pandya continued to entertain the whole crowd. He struck everything at his disposal scoring 91 runs off just 34 balls and in the way playing his best knock. But Harry Gurney got the better of him in the 18th over and along with it winning the game for Kolkata.
Russell leads the charge for Kolkata
Previously, an unbeaten knock from Andre Russell – 80 of 40 deliveries including six boundaries and eight towering sixes to help Kolkata Knight Riders post 232 runs at the end of 20 overs. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn provided them with a blistering start after Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. They added 96 runs in 9.3 overs for the first wicket to set the platform. Both Lynn and Gill crossed their individual half-centuries. The departure of Lynn saw Andre Russell walking out in the middle. He started slowly while Gill continued to play some gorgeous looking shots.
The Jamaican started to take off after Gill went back and smashed everything possible. He absolutely cut loose in the last three overs taking on Mumbai Indians best bowlers to help Kolkata Knight Riders post a staggering total on the board.

As breathtaking as @hardikpandya7’s 6-hitting is the 360 angle range of his strokeplay

If you aren’t watching #IPL2019 this evening, you just missed probably the most stupendous innings by an Indian. 91 in 34 by Hardik Pandya. Incredible talent. Now hope he carries it to England for World Cup..

With the current form Just imagine Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya showing their hitting skills together in the #WorldCup2019 .
But yes unfortunately Pant hasn't find the spot in the squad.#KKRvMI #MIvsKKR— Amey ?? (@amey_guthe) April 28, 2019
Krunal Pandya will have to really develop one of his two skills to have a long term limited overs career. I would suggest batting. #MIvKKR
