IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians Becomes First Team to Defeat Chennai Super Kings for Four Matches in Row

The three-times champions Mumbai Indians not only booked themselves a place in the final of the IPL 2019 but also became the first IPL team to defeat Chennai Super Kings for the fourth time in a row. Mumbai Indians is one of the rare teams in the Indian Premier League which has a dominating record while playing against Chennai Super Kings.

In fact, Mumbai Indians had won the two league matches convincingly against Chennai Super Kings. The Rohit Sharma-led team had won the first match against reigning champions by 37 runs and then went on to win the second game by 46 runs.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians once again checked the right boxes in the first qualifier against CSK. MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the hosts could never get the desired momentum in their batting innings as they lost three early wickets. MS Dhoni-led side could only get 32 runs in the powerplay overs.

Dhoni played a crucial knock of 37 runs from 29 balls with the help of three sixes whereas Ambati Rayudu scored 41 runs. Rahul Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for the Mumbai Indians as the young spinner scalped two wickets and conceded only 14 runs in his four overs quota.

Subsequently, Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial knock of 71 runs to help his team reach the target with six wickets in hand. It was a matured innings from the right-hander as he played grounded shots in his knock. There was no need for the big shots and Yadav made sure he batted till the end. Yadav and Ishan Kishan added a fine alliance of 80 runs for the third wicket partnership.

Mumbai Indians will now travel to Hyderabad whereas Chennai Super Kings will play the winner of the Eliminator between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier.
