India’s former skipper Rahul Dravid has shed light on the controversial run out of Jos Buttler done by Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner had to face the flak for his actions. However, Dravid who was well known for his fair play believes Ashwin was within the rights to effect the run-out.

According to the laws, Ravichandran Ashwin was spot on in mankading Jos Buttler. On the other hand, Dravid believes he would prefer a bowler to warn the batsman before effecting such a run-out. However, as per the revised rules of 41:16, it is not compulsory for the bowler to warn the batsman before Mankading him. In fact, former Indian spinner Erapalli Prasanna also believes Ashwin should have cautioned Jos Buttler.

Dravid comes up with a good point.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin had to face a lot of criticism for his actions. The likes of Shane Warne, Michael Vaughan had called the dismissal as disgraceful.

“It’s within the laws of the game and that’s pretty clear. So I don’t have a problem with someone deciding to do it. Ashwin was well within his rights to do what he did.

“However, personally, I would prefer it if somebody warns someone first. That would be my personal choice, but I respect someone’s view to think differently. I might not agree with it necessarily, but I would just have to agree to disagree whether someone should run someone out without warning him,” Rahul Dravid told The Times of India.

Furthermore, Dravid feels the reactions were overblown. The Wall believes the questioning of Ashwin’s character is not right.

“I think some of the reactions were overblown. Questioning Ashwin’s character because he did that is totally wrong. He has every right to his view. You might not agree with it, but it was well within his rights to do it and that does not make him a bad person” Dravid opined.

On the other hand, many former players believe that Ashwin’s action was against the spirit of the game. However, when there are laws that say that the dismissal is legal, then how can be it against the spirit of the game?

Furthermore, MCC, which is the guardian of the rules has also stated that Ashwin was well within the rights to dismiss Jos Buttler.
