Currently, Shreyas Iyer is having a dream run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. The flamboyant batsman is breaking records on a regular basis to help Mumbai achieve success. Meanwhile, in an interview, Iyer opens up on his change in approach to the game and also spoke about Delhi Capitals chances for Indian Premier League 2019.

Shreyas Iyer quoted that he learnt his positives and weaknesses, which helped him to come good in the domestic formats. Further, he went on to add saying that he would like to carry the same forward in order to press his case at the selection panel.

”Nothing. I played with a positive stride and I went for the kill. Sikkim was not really bad as they had got two early wickets. Once we started dominating, they fell back. We took advantage of that.  I wasn’t able to pick the ball initially as it was low on pace,” Shreyas Iyer said to SportStar.

Matured With The Captaincy – Shreyas Iyer

The right-handed batsman quoted that he has learnt a lot from the captaincy role. He also explained that youngsters would look up to the skipper’s performance, which certainly made his tough to put on a show. Iyer believes that captaincy helped him in improving his game a lot.

”When it comes upon you, the thought process and approach towards the team changes. You become mature and you start taking responsibility as an individual. Other players also look up to you as captain and they start respecting you,” he added.

”You have to maintain that diplomacy in the team and you got to be careful in the decisions you take. I think I have improved a lot as a batsman and I have realised my strengths and weaknesses. I try to learn as much as possible from everywhere I play. All these things have really helped me as a captain,” Iyer quoted.

Delhi Capitals though process changed:

In the earlier edition of IPL for Delhi, they were in a situation that a loss would result in their ouster from the tournament. It was the phase, which brought the best in the players, who showed their real character.

Shreyas Iyer feels that if the team repeats the same intent right from the first game, he is sure that they will be in the playoffs for Indian Premier League 2019. They made quite a few changes to their side for the upcoming season.

”In the last season, we were relentless in the second half. We knew we had to win all the games from there. Our approach had changed and I had also taken up the leadership role. Our thought process was to win every game. If we carry the same momentum right from the first match this season and can be consistent, it can help us qualify to the playoffs,” he inferred.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Shreyas Iyer. A good season in IPL will not only help Delhi Capitals but also helps him to find a place in the Indian side for upcoming ICC World Cup 2019.
