South Africa could very well host a complete edition of Indian Premier League- IPL 2019 –  once again.

As per a report in TOI, the general elections in India – which are to be held in 2019 –  will again be the reason for this move. In 2009, the General Elections saw the whole tournament being shifted to South Africa while in 2014, the first 15 days of the tournament was staged in UAE.

The tournament returned to India on May 1, 11 days before the last phase of voting. If the tournament is shifted fully out of the country, then South Africa would host IPL while if there is a partial shifting, then UAE would again be the host nation.

However, the Indian Government proposed the idea of conducting the General and Assembly elections at the same time, an idea if implemented, could see elections happening in the third or fourth quarter of this year only, which would see IPL being played in India only.

However, the government hasn’t finalized anything on this and chances of elections happening next year only seems to be the current forecast event.

It is sure that IPL will be shifted out of India either partially or fully due to elections as a security issue is always a concern when the country goes to poll.

BCCI is yet to speak up on the matter, and probably any official news would only come out next year when the Election Commission announces the date of General Elections in India.

Meanwhile, the eleventh edition of IPL will start in the first week of April. The auction for the tournament will be held on January 27 and 28 in Bangalore. The retention process has already taken place on January 4 where each franchise retained players as per their need.
