Chennai Super Kings just need one more win out of the two remaining league games to finish in the top two of the points table. The way the defending champions have performed this season, one thing is pretty much there for everyone to see is that they just look a very average side without their skipper MS Dhoni. The Super Kings have played two games without Dhoni this season and have lost both. In the first loss, they managed just 132 against Sunrisers Hyderabad before being all out for just 109 against Mumbai Indians in their previous outing.

Dhoni had missed the clash against Mumbai Indians due to a sickness. After the loss, Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming had said that the skipper was ‘pretty sick’. Fleming has now said that a call on Dhoni’s participation in the game against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday will be taken before the toss.

“Dhoni is progressing and he’s been pretty sick during this week. We will make a call on him tomorrow. He is progressing which is good,” Fleming told reporters on eve of the game.

Dhoni, who is also struggling with back spasm this season, did not take part in Tuesday’s training session and also missed the practice on Monday. Fleming, meanwhile, defended the team’s loss against Mumbai Indians. The former New Zealand captain said that the loss was not because of two forced changes in the playing eleven.

“We had a couple of changes forced upon us in the last game, but the performance was not due to the fact that we had made those changes. We are more comfortable going into this game. We have been pretty good, from success-wise, here at Chepauk.

“Sometimes, just getting jolted out of the rhythm can be a good thing. Coming down the business end of the tournament, there is a lot on the line each game, so we are well aware of getting the selections right. We want to be as consistent as possible. And I don’t see that changing, said Fleming.

Fleming also gave an update on the availability of South Africa star Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja, saying:

Faf’s been fine. Whenever he wears a singlet, means he is in good shape. Jadeja’s training well. They are definitely into consideration for tomorrow.”

Super Kings, meanwhile, have sealed their playoffs spot already with eight wins. They will now be eyeing to finish in the top two to have to chances of making it to the final.
