Gautam Gambhir could not repeat the same magic of Kolkata Knight Riders for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League 2018. The southpaw opener could only score 85 runs in the five matches in the played in the 11th season of the Twenty20 league. Thus, the veteran left-hander decided to step down from the captaincy duties. In fact, Gambhir didn’t get to play any games after quitting from the captaincy role.

Subsequently, Shreyas Iyer went on lead Delhi Daredevils in the previous season. Meanwhile, as expected Gautam Gambhir was released from the Delhi Daredevils squad. Therefore, the Delhi batsman is going to be up for grabs in the upcoming IPL auctions. The IPL auctions will take place in Jaipur on December 16. Thus, we take a look at three teams who could be interested in getting Gautam Gambhir on board.

Here are the three IPL teams:

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad has decided to trade Shikhar Dhawan, which has opened up a vacancy of an opener in the Orange Army team. The Hyderabad franchise has decided to retain David Warner which means they still will need one more opener.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has played as an opener throughout the folklore of the Indian Premier League and would be a perfect addition to the Hyderabad franchise.

Rajasthan Royals:

Rajasthan Royals were able to make it to the playoff stages. However, the Rajasthan Royals didn’t have a settled opening pair. Jos Buttler scored five fifties on the trot for the Royals, though the England talisman batsman didn’t have a regular partner at the opening position. Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane also could not come up with goods while opening the innings.

Gautam Gambhir has thus far scored 4217 runs in the 154 IPL matches Thus, his experience can come in handy for the Royals at the top of the order.

Mumbai Indians:

Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis had opened the innings for the three-times champions. However, both of these batsmen had done well while opening the innings for the Mumbai Indians. Thus, Gambhir can bat in the middle order to provide solidarity to the Mumbai middle order, which can be bleak at times and depends heavily on Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai has had its issues in the middle order and Gambhir’s experience can end their dilemma. Thus, the Rohit Sharma led side can try to go for Gautam Gambhir.
