Former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has named his top 6 batsmen of the recently concluded IPL 2020. He left out some big names from his list. Mumbai Indians won their fifth IPL title by defeating Delhi Capitals in Dubai.

Mumbai had as many as three players scoring more than 400 – two amassed more than 500 – which proved to be a massive contribution to their title-winning campaign. Similarly, several other batsmen made a resounding effort with the bat.

Aakash Chopra Excludes Virat Kohli from his top 6 batsman

Aakash Chopra in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel named his top six batsmen of the IPL 2020. The eyebrow-raising decision was that he omitted Virat Kohli even after the RCB skipper averaged 42 in the tournament.

Aakash Chopra picked AB de Villiers over the likes of Virat Kohli and Mayank Agarwal stating that AB won several games for RCB single-handedly. Chopra pointed out that the South-African has won most Man of the Match ward for RCB for the last three seasons. He said that AB also doubled up as a keeper despite having left the wicket-keeping gloves years ago.

In his YouTube video, Aakash Chopra said, “At No.6, I was considering Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli, but I am going with AB de Villiers. Some people have also questioned what sort of genius he is when he cannot win the tournament. But that is not his job. He has won the most ‘Man of the Matches’ for RCB since 2018, most Man of the Matches this year, and won the most matches single-handedly.”

The cricketer-turned-commentator had star middle-order Mumbai Indians batters, Suryakuamr Yadav and Ishan Kishan at 5th and 4th spot, respectively. Chopra was impressed by Yadav’s tranquillity after not being selected for the Australia tour. He also talked highly of Kishan and is in awe of the left-hander’s six-hitting prowess despite being a diminutive figure.

The 43-year-old went with two left-hander’s, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan for the third and the second spot. Both the openers scored more than 500 runs and were at the forefront of the success of their team.

And finally, the former India opener chose KL Rahul as his best batsman of the season. He said that despite Punjab not going through to the playoffs, KL Rahul had a mammoth season with the bat. Chopra believes that Rahul’s scintillating ton against RCB was one of the finest innings this season.

“At No.1, I have picked KL Rahul. His team did not go ahead, but if you go so far ahead in the league stage, then it means you have done something special. The 69-ball 132* against RCB was one of the finest innings we have seen in the tournament,” Aakash Chopra added.
