Shreyas Iyer has evolved as a cricket ever since he was appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals side. In 2019, Delhi lost out on making their maiden appearance in an IPL finale by a whisker. Iyer amassed 463 runs in 16 matches in that season.

During an interactive session with fans on Twitter, Iyer answered a few questions. On being asked to comment on former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting’s coaching style, Iyer heaped praises on the legendary World Cup winner.
Iyer revealed that Ponting has given a lot of freedom to his bunch of boys at the Delhi-franchise. “He’s an outstanding coach to work under and the amount of freedom he gives you is mesmerizing” Iyer wrote.

Shreyas Iyer lauds Ricky Ponting’s presence in the dressing room
This is not the first time when Iyer has lauded the presence of Capitals’ coach. The 25-year-old has always been a vocal supporter of Ponting. During a press-conference last year, Iyer credited Ponting for the major shift in results.
“Ponting is definitely a legend. Whenever he talks in the dressing room, no one has to talk after that. Because if someone does that, it’s of no use. The way he talks, it’s just like a song or a rap. He’s got that flow and he’s been doing it for 20 years.” Iyer said.

The Delhi Capitals are bolstered by many young India cricketers. The likes of Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw are some of the most promising names in the side. And Iyer says that it is a great opportunity for the aspiring ones to learn from the successful athlete.
“As youngsters, we are really happy and lucky to have him as our coach. The positivity that he spreads, the freedom that he gives to every player is something out of the box. That’s what we need as youngsters. We need someone to support us and back us. That’s what we get from Ricky,” added Iyer.
