In yet another setback to this year’s Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals’ assistant physiotherapist has tested positive for COVID-19. In the process, he has become the 14th member of the touring IPL party to test positive for the dreaded virus.

Around a week ago, 13 members including two players of the Chennai Super Kings had tested positive too. As a result, CSK had to extend their quarantine. They finally started their training on Friday after all the other members returned negative results. On the other hand, the 13 members are still in quarantine.

It would be interesting to see whether Delhi Capitals squad is quarantined or not after the physiotherapist returned positive test. The chance of the members being quarantined, however, is unlikely since the physiotherapist was yet to meet with, and had not been in contact with any players or staff of the franchise, according to Delhi Capitals.

Confirming the development, Delhi Capitals also said that he returned two negative COVID-19 tests on arrival in Dubai and was in his mandatory quarantine, where a third test came back as positive.

“He was isolated immediately, and is currently at the IPL Isolation Facility in Dubai for the next 14 days, at the end of which he will have to produce two negative reports for him to be able to join the Delhi Capitals squad. The franchise’s medical team is in constant touch with him, and wishes him a speedy recovery,” the release stated.

As per the tournament’s Standard Operating Procedure, other squad members will be tested on the fifth day of every week throughout the tournament. Delhi Capitals are based in Dubai. The Delhi-based outfit will open their campaign against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai on September 20.
