When Shimron Hetmyer impressed during the tour of India last year, he was tipped to earn a lucrative contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The left-handed batsman from West Indies impressed one and all with his stunning display with the bat. Before that, he had starred for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League and became the youngest batsman to score a century in CPL history.

Unsurprisingly, the youngster bagged a lucrative contract of INR 4.2 crore from Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last auction. However, he failed to justify the hype surrounding him as he flopped with the bat. He managed to score just 90 runs from 5 games as the Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to make it to the playoffs once again.

Thus not very surprisingly, the Bangalore-based outfit released the West Indies star ahead of the auction. But just days before the auction, Hetmyer impressed again in international cricket during the ongoing tour of India. He finished the three-match T20I series as West Indies’ top run-scorer before scoring a match-winning 85-ball century in the first ODI.

And his recent displays have helped him earn a lucrative IPL contract in the ongoing auction. Delhi Capitals have shelled out a whopping amount of INR 7.75 crores to sign up the southpaw. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals had also showed interest in Hetmyer but lost out to Delhi Capitals.
