With Sanju Samson impressing for Rajasthan Royals in their opening game of IPL 2020 against Chennai Super Kings, Gautam Gambhir has hailed him as the best wicketkeeper-batsman in India.

His comments came while Sanju Samson was tearing the CSK bowling lineup apart in Sharjah. The right-handed batsman slammed 74 off just 32 balls to put Rajasthan Royals in the driver’s seat against the three-time champions. Royals started their innings on a slow note and had managed to score only 24 runs in four overs before Sanju Samson shifted gears.

In the fifth over, he dispatched Sam Curran for a six and a four and did not look back after that. Deepak Chahar faced the same fate in the sixth over before the Royals star slammed Ravindra Jadeja for two sixes in the following over. In the eighth over, MS Dhoni introduced Piyush Chawla in the attack but it didn’t make any difference either.

Sanju Samson slammed 4 sixes in that over while reaching his fifty off just 19 balls. He hit three more sixes before Lungi Ngidi dismissed him to give some much-needed respite to CSK.

And as Sanju Samson was impressing with the bat, Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to lavish praise on him. He called him not only the best wicketkeeper-batsman in India but also the best young batsman in the country. It is indeed a bold claim from the legendary player as he snubbed the likes of MS Dhoni, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to call Sanju Samson the best wicketkeeper-batter in the country.

“Sanju Samson is not just the best wicketkeeper batsmen in India but the best young batsman in India! Anyone up for debate?,” wrote Gautam Gambhir.

As far as the match is concerned, Royals were 149 for 3 in 14 overs at the time of compiling this report.
