IPL 2020: Mohammed Shami Reveals How He Nailed Inch-Perfect Yorkers Against Mumbai Indians In The Super Over

Kings XI Punjab’s ace pacer, Mohammed Shami has revealed the secret behind his toe-crushing yorkers in the Super Over when KXIP took on Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). Mumbai and Punjab were involved in one of the most heated games of the tournament this year as they played out two super overs and KXIP eventually won.

The teams scored equal runs in the regulatory overs and the game went into the super over. From Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a tight super over as he restricted KXIP batsmen to just 5 runs in that over. However, Mohammed Shami, came out to lead the attack from KXIP, and he defended the runs as he also gave away just 5 runs. The game went into the 2nd super over where KXIP won.

Mohammed Shami Sheds Light On His Super Over Heroics Against Mumbai Indians

Speaking to TimesNow, Shami said, “I have been playing for India for a long time now and the pressure at the international level is huge. If I can bowl perfect yorkers in that situation, then IPL is just a short format of the game. I’m always prepared, confident, I always back my ability and skill, always have a positive mindset. In the death overs, I look at all my options and decided which would be the best option. So if you back your ability, the chance of a successful execution is higher.”

The Double Super Over Will Be A Memory For A Lifetime: Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami further said, “It is extremely difficult to defend 5 runs in T20 cricket; one bad ball and you will be hit for a six. And Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma were in brilliant form, so it was very difficult, but I knew I had to back my own strengths. Rahul asked me what I intended to do; I told him I will bowl six yorkers.”

“My confidence increased as I bowled one good yorker after another. And yes, this will go down as one of my best games, as my over indirectly played a role in my team winning the match in the second Super Over. And the match saw two Super Overs – this is a memory for a lifetime,” Shami added.

Kings XI Punjab have made a remarkable comeback in the second half of the tournament as they have won their last 5 games on the trot. If they make it to the playoffs from hereon, they can cause damage to a lot of teams.
