Defending champions Mumbai Indians, on Wednesday, opened their account in IPL 2020 with a thumping 49-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders. The Rohit Sharma-led side had started their title defence on a poor note as they were thrashed by Chennai Super Kings in the tournament-opener.

But it did not take them long to return to winning ways as they won their first game in UAE after losing six games on the trot. It was a lopsided contest as the reigning IPL champions made light work of the two-time IPL winners. Mumbai dominated the contest thoroughly to register their first win of the tournament.

Asked to bat first, they posted 195 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma starred with the bat, scoring 80 off 54 balls with the help of three fours and six sixes. Suryakumar Yadav also played a crucial knock of 47. In reply, the Knight Riders could only manage 149 for 9.

Pat Cummins, who had conceded 49 in just three overs, top-scored for the side, scoring 33 that included 4 sixes in an over off Jasprit Bumrah.

Mumbai Indians’ dig at Kolkata Knight Riders:

The latest result has further extended Mumbai Indians’ domination over the Kolkata-based outfit. Since the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008, Mumbai Indians have the upper hand in this rivalry. And as soon as the four-time champions further extended their bragging rights of this competition, they did not waste any time in taking a dig at the Kolkata counterpart.

Soon after the game ended, Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter made sure to remind everyone of their impressive record against Kolkata Knight Riders. They posted a tweet showing the head-to-head record between the two teams followed by an emoji to take a dig at KKR.
