A 151-run opening stand between David Warner [85 not-out off 58 balls] and Wriddhiman Saha [58 not-out off 45 balls] has helped SunRisers Hyderabad [SRH] thump Mumbai Indians [MI] by ten wickets to ensure qualification in the IPL 2020 playoffs at the expense of Kolkata Knight Riders.
Thanks to a 10-wicket win, SRH leapfrogged both KKR and RCB to claim the 3rd spot in the points table, and they will now face Virat Kohli’s men in the Eliminator on Friday.
Needing 150 to win, SunRisers Hyderabad got off to a rollicking start courtesy yet another 50-run-stand between David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha.
The duo racked up 56 runs in the powerplay, which included five consecutive boundaries off Dhawal Kulkarni and James Pattinson. Saha and Warner were absolutely imperious against both pace and spin.
Warner smashed yet another half-century with a six off Rahul Chahar in the 12th over and Saha followed suit in the same over with a single on the 4th delivery and in the process, the duo also racked up the 100-run-stand. It was an absolute cruise mode from there on and the target was eventually achieved in the 18th over.
MI posted 8-149 thanks to an all-round bowling performance by SRH
Earlier Mumbai Indians batted first and on the back of a late assault from Kieron Pollard managed to post 8-149 in 20 overs.
The defending champions, despite having lost the duo of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock in the powerplay- both fell to Sandeep Sharma- were well placed at the halfway mark after SuryaKumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan had taken them to 2-81.
