India U19 World Cup team may have fallen short of their dream of lifting the Under-19 World Cup but the boys made the whole nation proud nonetheless. Moreover, the rise of players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Kartik Tyagi has been monumental.

Bishnoi, in particular, impressed one and all with his bowling, as he finished the World Cup as the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets to his name.

Even before, the World Cup had begun, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were so impressed with him, that they shelled out Rs. 2 crores on the youngster. After lighting up the World Cup, Bishnoi is now eyeing to have similar success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Ravi Bishnoi discusses IPL 2020, his career so far, and his inspiration Anil Kumble:

In a recent interview with Times of India, the 19-year-old lad from Rajasthan talked about his career, while revealing why he opted to become a bowler and spinner in particular.

He said, “I started as a medium-pacer initially in my career. After that, I switched to leg-spin because I could turn the ball very well… Spin with some speed plays a big role in getting wickets.”

After a successful World Cup, the right-arm leggie reflected back in his journey and the rise to stardom.

“It’s every cricketer’s dreams to represent the country at the World Cup. I am happy that I am in that league now. The journey was wonderful and there was a lot to learn from the tournament,” added Bishnoi.

In his yesteryears, the 19-year-old admired former Indian spinner, Anil Kumble. In the upcoming IPL, he will get the opportunity to work under Kumble, who is the coach of Kings XI Punjab. When quizzed about the same, Bishnoi said he is looking forward to learning from Kumble and will make the most of this chance.

“The one thing I will request him is to teach me is the art of bowling the flipper… After the World Cup, the target is to perform well for KXIP in IPL. There have been cricketers who got a chance in the Indian team after performing magnificently in the IPL. My ultimate dream is to play for India (senior team).”

Kings XI Punjab will hope that their newest acquisition can help to propel them into the playoffs, so they can end their trophy drought, when the IPL season begins from March 29.
