The auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will take place on 19th of this month in Kolkata. A total of 971 players — 713 Indian and 258 overseas cricketers — had registered for the the much-awaited auction. 215 capped players, 754 uncapped and a couple of players from associate nations — USA and The Netherlands had put their hats in the ring to fill up the available 73 spots.

Unlike the previous auctions, the upcoming one will not be a grand affair and would just be a one-day affair since all the teams will just buy some additional players or would complete their squad. The auction for the 2021 edition would be a mega one since all the franchises would have to build their squad once again.

List trimmed:

The IPL, on Wednesday, sent all the eight franchises the final list of players who have made it to the auction. The initial list of 971 players has been trimmed to 332, including 19 Indian capped players. The final list also includes 24 new players that were added after those names were requested by the franchises.

The likes of  Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris, Pat Cummins and other big names will be available in the auction. The day will kick off with a set of seven batsmen which includes Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn, Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan and Robin Uthappa.

As usual, the players have been grouped as per their specialty. The order of the auction will be – batsmen, allrounders, wicketkeeper-batsmen, fast bowlers and spinners. The auction will commence with different sets of capped players followed by the uncapped players.

The likes of Lynn, Uthappa, Maxwell and Morgan will be some of the biggest attractions in the auction. Both Lynn and Uthappa were surprisingly released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the upcoming auction. On the other hand, Maxwell had not made himself for the last IPL in order to focus on international cricket.
