The fifth match of IPL 2020 between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders was a tale of contrasting fortunes of pacers of both the teams. While the KKR bowlers were taken to the cleaners, the Mumbai Indians pacers had an impressive outing as they powered their side to an impressive 49-win.

Asked to bat first, they posted 195 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma starred with the bat, scoring 80 off 54 balls with the help of three fours and six sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav also played a crucial knock of 47. In reply, the Knight Riders could only manage 149 for 9. Pat Cummins, who had conceded 49 in just three overs, top-scored for the side, scoring 33 that included 4 sixes in an over off Jasprit Bumrah.

As far as performance from the pacers is concerned, it was a day of contrasting fortunes. All the KKR bowlers conceded more than 8 runs per over with their star man Pat Cummins going for as many as 49 runs in just three overs. Sandeep Warrier conceded 34 runs off three overs while Shivam Mavi gave away 32 runs from four overs.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians pacers had an outing to remember. Trent Boult started the proceedings with an maiden over and finished with 2 wickets for 30 runs off 4 overs. James Pattinson conceded only 25 runs from 4 overs and picked up two wickets.

Bumrah conceded only 5 runs from his three overs while picking up two wickets before his figures were ruined by Cummins as the latter slammed the pacer for four sixes.

Sachin Tendulkar spot-on with the prediction:

The contrasting performance by the pacers of both the teams might have surprised many but legendary Sachin Tendulkar knew it all along. The former India and Mumbai Indians batsman had tweeted about the same even before the second innings of the game started.

Soon after Kolkata Knight Riders’ finished their bowling innings, Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to predict that Mumbai Indians fast-bowlers will get more help from the surface.

“I feel fast bowlers will get more help off the surface in the 2nd innings. Apart from Mavi, who has bowled better lengths, @KKRiders have bowled too short so far. Rohit & Surya have displayed fantastic strokeplay and are batting with controlled aggression,” he wrote.

Following the game, he took to Twitter again to make sure he praises the Mumbai Indians pacers for their performance. He also stated that Knight Riders never looked in contention to win the match during their chase, tweeting:

“Great start by @mipaltan fast bowlers and well supported by Rahul and Pollard. At no stage did it appear that any partnership threatened to chase the target.”
