Kolkata Knight Riders’ opening batsman Shubman Gill has opined on the Andre Russell’s returns with the willow thus far in IPL 2020. All-rounder Andre Russell is one player, who has so far not come into the party in IPL 2020 and displayed the fireworks he is known for. Andre Russell has built a reputation for single-handedly turning the game on its head with his meaty blows to clear the fence.

In five matches in IPL 2020, Andre Russell has 50 runs with a highest score of 24 while maintaining a strike rate of 124.01. The 32-year old earned the man of the tournament in IPL 2019 for accumulating 510 runs in ten fixtures and taking 11 wickets. He boasted of a strike rate of 204.82. Hence, it is slightly surprising for the fans to see him not work his magic.

However, Russell has bowled brilliantly in the death, specifically against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. Shubman Gill understands that the West Indian marauder has not delivered as per expectations so far; however, expects him to come good in the upcoming part of the tournament, which would be the main one.

He didn’t do well as per his expectations. I think it is good for us in the way that the main part of the tournament is yet to come and as they say, save the best for the last,” Shubman Gill stated as quoted by Times Now.

Shubman Gill, who has scored 163 runs in five matches so far, underlined that Kolkata Knight Riders have fared brilliantly, having won their matches convincingly and comprehensively. The 20-year old admitted that only in the first game, they looked rusty since they played competitive cricket after a long time. KKR will next face Kings XI Punjab in Dubai on Saturday and with six points are fourth in the points table.

I think we are playing great cricket. Apart from the first game, we lost where we looked a bit rusty as we were all playing our first match after such a long time. Except for that game, we have been playing some really good cricket. The matches that we have won, we have done it comprehensively and were quite comfortable wins for us,” the Punjab batsman added.
