The Indian Premier League (IPL) has established itself as a platform not only to unearth talented youngsters but also it’s become a business. With all the stakeholders earning in hefty bucks, the absence of IPL this year could massively negatively impact them. And BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has opened up on the importance of the tournament not only for India but also other nations.

The initial commencing date for IPL 2020 was the 29th of March, which was when the COVID-19 pandemic began exploding in India. Keeping that in mind, the BCCI deferred it to the 15th of April; however, by the time, the pathogen took central stage. And it stood postponed indefinitely as the cases keep rising alarmingly. While the cash-rich league may still take place, it’s highly unlikely that India will play as hosts.

Sourav Ganguly conceded that the funds accruing from the competition are not only a positive sign for BCCI but all other cricketing boards too. The former Indian captain said that the money gets distributed amongst all other boards and BCCI is not the only one taking all its share.

“I think it should be looked at positively by everyone because it’s not just India making it, the others are also making it. IPL funds boards as well. We give 10 or 20 percent of the income to be distributed among all the boards. So it’s not just BCCI taking every penny or every pie of whatever, we share it also,” Ganguly said as quoted by Times Now.

To add to the above, Australian head coach Justin Langer stimulated his players to partake in the extravaganza if the T20 World Cup gets postponed. For players like Steve Smith and David Warner, playing for the national team comes first. However, the iconic duo is open to playing in the competition if the ICC World T20 is not staged.

As far as the host of the tournament is concerned, Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) might likely bag the rights. The Indian Board has kept a window from September to November for the IPL. Meanwhile, international cricket made its comeback since March on the 8th of July with England and West Indies battling it out in a Test match in Southampton.
