India National Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli has cleared the air that Indian Premier League performances will not have an impact on World Cup selections. We have seen in the past that performing well in the Indian T20 domestic league has earned many players their ticket to the national side. However, Virat Kohli has confirmed it won’t be the case for the World Cup.

Kohli has hit the nail on the head as it makes sense to consider the overall performance of the players in the last year. Yes, the current form is going to play some role but Kohli has ruled out IPL performance to get in India’s World Cup squad. In fact, Kohli had recently said that he doesn’t want the bad habits to creep into the team before the T20I series.

Kohli makes a good point.

“No, I don’t see the IPL having any influence on World Cup selection. I think that will be very, very radical sort of analysis,” the Indian captain, said on the eve of the first ODI here.

In fact, India has covered most of the bases for the ODI showpiece. There are little pieces missing in India’s World Cup team, which Kohli will like to fill. The upcoming ODI series against Australia is another perfect opportunity for Kohli to give chances to the team’s bench strength.

“We need to have a solid team. Before we head into the IPL, we need to be absolutely clear of what team we want for the World Cup. I don’t see anything changing on how the IPL goes for any of the players.

“If one or two players do not have a good IPL season, it doesn’t mean that they are out of the picture for the World Cup. Those things are not going to matter,” Kohli set the record straight.

Crucial to select the right squad.

Meanwhile, Kohli is not in the mood of compromising a bowler’s place with a batsman. Kohli wants to play a genuine bowler as there needs to be an extra fielder inside the 30-yard circle before the 40 overs.

“We will have to think about the combinations. I don’t think playing a bowler less is a good idea because with the extra fielder in till the 40th over, it becomes very difficult to sort of get a few guys to chip in with a few overs here and there.

“We will have to work out the batting combination to try and give game-time to the guys we want to. But, I don’t see the bowling combination changing,” the skipper said.

Virat Kohli is leading from the front as he has led with aplomb. Kohli will like to go all the way in the World Cup. In fact, chief selector MSK Prasad had also recently said that they will not consider IPL performance for World Cup’s squad.
