IPL May Still Go Ahead At Some Stage Later In The Season: Alex Carey

The onslaught of the global pandemic that is coronavirus has put the entire world under a lockdown and the world of sports is one of the worst affected arenas. Almost every marquee sporting event like Wimbledon, Premier League, NBA, La Liga, Olympics have been put on the backburner as the world self isolates in a bid to avert the steady proliferation of the contagion that is COVID-19.

As far as cricket is concerned, its marquee franchise event, Indian Premier League has also bore the brunt of the steadily escalating situation. The tournament which was previously postponed till April 15 has now been official put on the rocks for an indefinite period of time.

And, like the fans and Indian cricketers, overseas cricketers, who were all looking forward to participating in the 13th edition of the cash-rich league are loathing over the current situation.

And, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey is one of them. Carey, whose stock has soared in the past 12-15 months, was scheduled to make his IPL debut this season after he was picked by the Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals in the 2020 auction.

Alex Carey opens up on the situation concerning the postponement of the IPL

Carey believes that looking at the current situation, the IPL is looking unlikely but at the same time, he is also optimistic about things improving in days to follow.

“At this stage it’s looking likely that might not go ahead. It would be nice to be in Delhi playing cricket it was my first time selected to be part of the IPL.” Alex Carey was quoted as saying by India Today.

He added: “I’m sure the world will move in the way we want it to, and there’s still that hope later in the season the IPL will go ahead and the (men’s T20) World Cup (scheduled for Australia), but we’ll wait and see.

The left-hander is also seeing a silver lining in the current lockdown as it has given him to spend a lot of time with

“I look at it as I’m healthy, safe, and getting to spend a lot of time with my family.

The 13th edition of the IPL was originally scheduled to take place from March 29th.
