It was just his second game after an injury lay-off, and Jasprit Bumrah is already up and running to break those records in International cricket. On Friday, he added yet another feather to his illustrious hat by picking the wicket of Danushka Gunathilaka in his first over with the new ball. He became the highest wicket-taker for India surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are jointly holding the top position.
Bumrah was tied on 52 wickets with Chahal and Ashwin at the top spot in the elite list before the start of this match. He had picked up a wicket in the Indore T20I. Now, Jasprit Bumrah has 53 T20I wickets to his name from 45 T20 internationals. Wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (52 wickets from 37 matches) and ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (52 wickets from 46 matches) are the joint second-highest on the list.
Jasprit Bumrah has also moved past Mustafizur Rahman:
With his 53 wickets in T20Is, Bumrah has also moved past Mustafizur Rahman, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and Graeme Swann in the overall list of highest wicket-takers in the format, that is ruled by Lasith Malinga with 106 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah has not played any competitive cricket ever since being laid low by a stress fracture to his back after the tour of the West Indies. He made an outstanding comeback with classy performance- 1/32 in the second T20I in Indore, which the hosts had won by seven wickets. The Gujarat pacer returned with figures of 1-5 in two overs in the third and final game.
All in all, it is a piece of good news for India, as Bumrah got his rhythm back. His return will be a welcome boost to the Indian pace bowling department that has been rotated effectively in the last couple of months. Jasprit Bumrah started off from where he had left before being laid low by a stress fracture.
