In one of that unfortunate sort of things, Australia’s opening batsman D’Arcy Short missed a game for his side in the ongoing JLT One Day Cup. The southpaw became the victim of a pet dog when he got bitten.

The bite needed stitches as the cut was pretty deep. It is learnt that the bit caused a deep laceration to the palm of his hand. The injury ruled him out for the opening clash against New South Wales (NSW) on September 18.

D’Arcy Short will be available for Round two:

The  Medicine Manager Nick Jones reiterated that it was an unfortunate incident for Short. He explained that a pet dog had bitten on his palm while when he was playing with him.

However, he confirmed that the stylish southpaw will recover before the start of the second round of the tournament. Besides, they also lost the services of their key players due to injuries.

”D’Arcy had an unlucky incident two weeks ago while playing with his dog, where his hand got in the way of a dog toy. And the bite caused a deep laceration to the palm of his hand,” said Western Australia Cricket Association Sports Science Sports Medicine Manager Nick Jones.

”He needed a few stitches and surgical washout but has returned to batting and catching balls this week, and is on track for selection in Round 2,” he added.

Though the incident looks a bit comical. It is not the first time to take place in the game of cricket when pet dog also halted the game for a brief moment.

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock also sat out of the Test match against England when he was injured because of his pet while taking a walk.
