Keshav Maharaj Named ICC Player Of The Month For April 2022

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj was named the ICC Player of the Month for April 2022 thanks to his amazing performance in the two-Test series against Bangladesh at home. Apart from him, his fellow Proteas spinner Simon Harmer and Oman’s opener Jatinder Singh were nominated for this award.

The left-arm spinner was the Man of the Series in the two-match Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh as he picked 16 wickets in two matches. His bowling analysis in the two matches read 0/65, 7/32, 2/57, and 7/40.

If that was not enough, Maharaj also contributed with the bat, scoring an attacking 84 with the bat during the second Test in Port Elizabeth as South Africa wrapped up a 2-0 series triumph on home soil.

Members of the voting panel that awarded the monthly honor to Maharaj were full of praise for the 32-year-old.

“A simply outstanding few weeks showcasing true grit and determination. Exceptional to see him work in tandem with Simon Harmer in exploiting the skills that we’ve always known to be there,” said JP Duminy, former South Africa batter and current voting panel member.

Keshav Maharaj Beats Simon Harmer And Jatinder Singh To Win The Honors

Keshav Maharaj has been one of the pillars of the new-look South Africa side, especially in Test matches. He has 150 wickets in 40 Tests with a best of 9/129 and has scored 953 runs as well in the whites.

Fellow voting panel member Lisa Sthalekar echoed Duminy’s sentiments, with the Australian legend-making note of Maharaj’s valuable late runs with the bat.

“He was a key member to the success of the series for South Africa. The amount of wickets at crucial times was exceptional and late runs was one of the main reasons for their success,” she said.
