Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has taken a sly dig at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over their recent tweet for Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Kevin Pietersen is one of the pioneers when it comes to England cricketers’ participation in the cash-rich league. Before the 2009 edition of the tournament, he and his former England teammate Andrew Flintoff had become the-then highest-priced players after fetching $1.55m contract each. In 2008 which was the inaugural season of the IPL, no England player had participated in the competition.

Kevin Pietersen’s interest in IPL, however, tarnished his image to some extent in England cricket.  Later, in his autobiography ‘KP’, he had stated that he faced a lot of criticism in England because he was one of the first few players to play in the IPL  and had also alleged that the ECB was reluctant to allow domestic players from participating in the T20 tournament.

And thus when he recently came across a tweet from ECB wishing good luck to Stokes and Archer, he could not help but take a dig at the cricket board.

“Good luck to our lads in today’s huge IPL game!” ECB wrote on Friday.

Reacting to the tweet, Pietersen wrote: “Just imagine, IMAGINE this tweet 8/9 years ago…!” followed by a few laughing smileys.

“I’m so happy these guys are benefitting positively from the IPL!” Pietersen added.

ECB have changed their instance in recent years and have allowed their players to take part in the IPL. In the ongoing season, there are 10 England players involved including the likes of Stokes, Archer, Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan.
