In what was one of the most dramatic final overs in the IPL 2022 tournament. Marcus Stoinis and Rinku Singh starred despite Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) losing their must-win game to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 2 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on May 18, 2022.
KL Rahul of LSG did well to win the toss and chose to bat first. And then Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten on 140 in 70 balls with 10 fours and 10 sixes, while captain KL Rahul made 68* in 51 balls with 3 fours 4 fours as LSG posted 210/0 in 20 overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders needed to win this match to remain in contention for playoffs but faced a daunting task as they had to chase down 211 runs. They started off well when openers Venkatesh Iyer (0) and Abhijeet Tomar (2) got out early.
But then Nitish Rana (42), Shreyas Iyer (50 in 29 balls), and Sam Billings (36 in 24 balls) took KKR closer to the target. However, their wickets made things difficult for KKR which was even more compounded by Andre Russell also getting out for 5 runs.

The match came down to 38 runs in the last 12 balls and Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine hit a six each off Jason Holder to set up the final over with 21 runs required in it. KL Rahul, having exhausted his frontline bowlers, gave the ball to Marcus Stoinis.
However, Rinku Singh was in red-hot form and started by hitting a four on the first ball. The second ball was hit over mid-wicket for a six and the third ball saw the same fate, albeit over long-off. The KKR lefty Rinku Singh then took a quick two runs to keep the strike, as the equation came down to 5 runs off 3 balls.
But Stoinis bowled a wide and slower one to Rinku, who sliced the ball over covers, where Evin Lewis took a brilliant running catch to bring KKR’s winning train to a screeching halt, as Rinku walked back for 40 in 15 balls with 4 sixes to his name. Umesh Yadav came to face the next ball with 3 needed off one ball.
However, he missed a straight yorker and Marcus Stoinis saved the day for LSG, who won the match by 2 runs, qualified for the playoffs, and KKR were eliminated from the race of playoffs.
