Know All the Prestigious Poly Umrigar Awardees Before Virat Kohli

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to honour India’s captain Virat Kohli with the prestigious Poly Umrigar award.

Kohli will bag the honours at the BCCI awards which will be held on June 12 at Bengaluru. The right-handed classical batsman is bound to be awarded for his remarkable form in the previous two seasons.

Moreover, this will be the fifth time that the Indian skipper will receive the award. In fact, Sachin Tendulkar is the only player to get the award twice.

Let take a look at other recipients of the Polly Umrigar Award:

Sachin Tendulkar (Two times in 2006-07, 2009-10):

Former legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar became the first recipient of the award when it was introduced way back in 2006.

Master Blaster Sachin received the award twice in his career in 2006-07 and 2009-10 season respectively.

Virender Sehwag (2007/08):

Former combative batsman Virender Sehwag received the honours in the 2007-08 season. Sehwag was in prime form with the bat in that particular season.

Gautam Gambhir (2008/09):

Gautam Gambhir followed in the footsteps of his Delhi-based opening partner in the 2008-09 season.

Gambhir scored a fine 75 in the final of the World Cup Twenty20 against Pakistan.

Rahul Dravid (2010-11):

Fondly known as ‘The Wall’ got himself on the board in the 2010-11 season.

The former Indian skipper showed great character on the England tour during the fag end of his career.

Ravichandran Ashwin (2011-12):

Ravichandran Ashwin had a fine start to his International career. The quality off-spinner was able to flummox one of the best in the business.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2013-14):

Paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar is always known for his skills to swing the ball both ways. Moreover, Kumar has now added a couple of yards of pace which could play a significant part.

Since then, it is all Virat Kohli for the Poly Umrigar award.

The Indian skipper has gone on to win the award in all the seasons after 2013-14. Kohli also got himself on the board in the 2012-13 season.
