David Warner winning his third Allan Border medal was the highlight of the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne. After being banned for a year in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal, the southpaw returned to action during last year’s World Cup and hit the ground running.
He finished the World Cup as the second highest-run scorer and had a stunning home season where he scored his first T20I ton and first Test triple century. David Warner pipped Steve Smith and Pat Cummins to win the prestigious award. He beat Smith by just one vote to get the award.

Warner won the T20I player of the year award as well while Marnus Labuschagne became Australia’s Test player of the year with Aaron Finch being adjudged the ODI player of the year.
Ellyse Perry won the top award in women’s cricket as she bagged the Belinda Clark Award for the third time after bagging it in 2016 and 2017. Perry beat Alyssa Healy to the award. She eased past Healy with 161 votes although the latter bagged the award for women T20I player of the year.
Perry was also the women’s ODI player of the year. Perry stood for Australia in the Women’s Ashes as her century in the Test and 11 wickets in three ODIs helped her side seal the series. She also picked up 7 for 22 – the best ODI figures by an Australian woman’s player.
