Matthew Hayden at his peak was one of the best openers Australia ever had, and along with Adam Gilchrist, the duo forged a formidable partnership opening the batting for Aussies in the limited overs format. The southpaw used to send tremors down the spine of the bowlers with his audacious strokeplay and boast of an imposing record in both Tests and ODI’s.

Hayden who is part of the commentary panel for the current Test series between India and Sri Lanka shared a funny picture alongside recently retired Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra with a funnier caption. “First time for everything fast bowlers usually tells me to ‘Get on my bike’ after being dismissed. Not @AshishNehra64 he arrived on his bike with flowers #sweet @StarSportsIndia #HaydosHosts #memories #INDvSL,” Hayden wrote.

The duo came at the receiving end of each other several times in international cricket, but due to the injuries suffered by Nehra at different points in his career, their duels were reduced to a considerable margin. Nehra was part of that fateful final in the 2003 World Cup when the Aussies annihilated the Indians by 125 runs to lift their 3rd World Cup title.

Hayden and Gilchrist got the Aussies off to a sensational start which ensured the middle order carried on the momentum and took Australia to a huge total of 359 runs. It was a massive total for anyone’s liking especially in those days and India couldn’t quite get going and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

It was Ricky Ponting who scored a sensational century which took Australia towards that massive total. Meanwhile, Nehra also made his mark during the 2033 World Cup when he ran through the England batting order during a group stage match and ended with exceptional figures of 6/23. Till date, it is one of the best ODI spells bowled by an Indian pacer and undoubtedly the best in World Cups.
