Former India cricketer, Zaheer Khan feels the selectors had taken a harsh decision on Mayank Agarwal, as he had not been given an opportunity and got dropped from the squad for Australia Tests. However, Mayank Agarwal had an excellent domestic season, as far as numbers are concerned.

Khan backs Mayank over selection conundrum

Recently, the opener played for India B in the Deodhar Trophy 2018 where he bagged some vital runs in the tournament. Previously, he scored plenty of runs for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-hander also played an exciting knock for India President XI against the Windies in the practice match.

Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan reckons the selectors had not done something fair with Mayank Agarwal who has been waiting for his chance for a while now. Khan opines they should have given at least one opportunity to test the capability of the batsman.

“It is not really fair for someone like Mayank Agarwal as well who is been part of the team. If you are a part of the team, you get picked in the playing XI, have a bad day, it doesn’t matter. Not enough chances have been given that something as a player you can live with.” Zaheer Khan said.

Meanwhile, Khan believes Mayank must be thinking where did I go wrong. The right-handed batsman must keep his patience as the chances would come his way. Zaheer further thinks performing well in the upcoming Ranji Trophy would only push the selectors to pick him up.

“If you just been part of the squad and not really got the opportunity to play or showcase your talent that’s something which is very hard to deal with. Today Mayank Agarwal must be sitting there and thinking of what did I do Wrong? Did I not serve the drinks properly? He must have done everything possible.” Khan added.
