Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan has taken a massive call against the Indian team in their ongoing tour of Australia. India took the field in almost nine months since their last international cricket match and opened their tour of Australia with the first of the three ODIs in Sydney. With the hosts dominating the first ODI so far, Michael Vaughan backs them to beat India in all the formats comprehensively even as it is an early call.

Australia elected to bat first after winning the toss in Sydney and put up a fantastic opening stand. David Warner and captain Aaron Finch added a mammoth 156 for the opening partnership, playing steadily to blunt a reputed Indian bowling attack. While the Australian batsmen initially looked uncomfortable and started slowly, they ran well and had few strokes of luck too. After Warner’s departure for 69, Finch and Steve Smith have added 70 runs more in no time.

It is apparent to think that India looks a lot shaky coming into the tour of Australia. The men in blue have not played international cricket for a long time now and have injury concerns to their critical players. The absence of Rohit Sharma from the limited-overs squad was a body blow to them apart from Virat Kohli’s departure midway through the tour and Ishant Sharma completely missing the Test series. While India does have competent players in their armoury, it would be an uphill task to beat Australia if not set the tone initially.
