Misbah-ul-Haq Picks MS Dhoni As The Indian Player He Would Like To Idolise

Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was one of the several big names from cricket who attended India Today’s star-studded show at the iconic Lord’s on Sunday. Stalwarts from India, England, Pakistan, West Indies and Australia attended the show. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards, Shane Watson, Misbah, Sachin Tendulkar and many other big names were part of the show.

The players opened up on different topics, ranging from their playing days, X-factors of the teams in the ongoing World Cup, which team can go all the way and much more. In addition, Misbah was asked an interesting question. The host of the show asked the legendary batsman to name an India who he would like to idolise.

In reply, Misbah revealed MS Dhoni’s name. The Pakistan legend first picked Sachin Tendulkar as batsman but made it clear that he would like to idolise Dhoni because of his contribution to Indian cricket.

“As a batsman, I would pick Sachin Tendulkar. But I would pick MS Dhoni because of the change and the achievement that Indian cricket witnessed under his captaincy. There are no doubts that there have been big names who cannot be forgotten like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly but I still believe whatever India have achieved under Dhoni are very big achievements,” Misbah-ul-Haq  said.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India reached unprecedented heights. He the nation to the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup titles. Under him, India also rose to the pinnacle of Test rankings for the first time.  Dhoni is still the only captain in the world to have won all the ICC tournaments – World T20, World Cup and the Champions Trophy. The veteran batsman is currently gearing up to help India win the World Cup for the third time. India will open their campaign on Wednesday against South Africa.
