Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is currently in his first stint as the national team’s batting consultant. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Younis Khan as the batting coach ahead of their high-profile Test tour of England to imbibe his abilities into an inexperienced batting line-up. As per reliable sources, head coach and chief selector Misbah-Ul-Haq wants Younis to be permanent.

Pakistan’s highest Test run-getter and century-maker was one of the greatest batsmen in their ranks. Younis Khan’s and Misbah-Ul-Haq’s contributions were vital when the men in green drew the four-Test series in England in 2016. In England, the 42-year old has 810 runs in nine games at 50.63, including a double-hundred that he scored at the Oval four years ago.
The tourists might be trailing the ongoing three-match series; however, Misbah-Ul-Haq has remained impressed with Younis’ hard work and dedication with the batsmen. The trusted source confirmed that Younis had been appointed as coach only for the tour of England.
“Younis has been appointed as batting coach of the senior team for only the England tour. But Misbah has been very impressed with the dedication and hard work put in by Younis Khan while working with the batsmen in the team in England,” the source stated as quoted by Hindustan Times.
The representative further revealed that the 45-year old spoke to PCB CEO Wasim Khan about appointing Younis Khan as the full-time coach. He thinks that their pair can only have a positive influence on the team.
“Misbah has asked Wasim Khan to consider giving Younis a long-term contract with the team as he feels the former captain and teammate will only have a positive influence on the batsmen in the team,” the representative added.
The source added that the camp is stunned to see the cheerfulness Younis Khan has imbibed in them while during his playing days, he was the opposite.
“Everyone has been pleasantly surprised to see the positive and cheerful behaviour of Younis although during his playing days he was known for his flashy temperament and run-ins with the establishment,” the source said further.
Younis Khan wishes for Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq to break many records:
The former right-handed batsman stated that it would please him to see the likes of Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq shatter many batting records in the upcoming years. Younis added that he is not only working with the players from a technical point of view but also on their mindset since a healthy mental approach could mean plenty of positive things.
“Nothing would make me happier than to see Babar Azam or Asad Shafiq go and break many records in the years to come. I am working with the batsmen not just from a technical point of view but also on their mindset because it is the mental approach of a player which decides whether he will be a world class performer or not,” the 118-Test veteran conceded.
