Pakistan Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammad Amir shocked the world when he announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this week. The cricketer, who is married to a British national, Nargis Malik is planning to obtain a British passport and settle down in the United States of America (USA).

Amir planning to settle in the US

Amir announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect on July 26 (Friday). However, he will continue to play in the limited-overs cricket for his country. The 27-year-old Pakistan seamer released a statement through Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reveal his decision. Mohammad Amir made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle in July 2009 only at the age of 17. He featured in 36 Tests claiming 119 wickets at an average of 30.47. Amir has taken this big step considering the upcoming World T20 next year.

As per recent reports, Mohammad Amir is planning to settle down the US. Amir is eligible for a spouse visa, which allows him to stay in England for 30 months. He is also planning to buy a purchase a house in England.

“He is clearly planning to obtain a British passport and permanently settle down in England in future,” a well-informed source said. “With a spouse visa he can work freely and enjoy other benefits as a permanent resident of UK which is why he is planning to also purchase a house in England,” the source added.

Furthermore, the source added that Mohammad Amir is eligible for the spouse visa despite spending some time in juvenile jail for a few months during the spot-fixing scandal in 2010-2011. Despite retiring from Test cricket, Mohammad Amir will be a crucial part in the limited-overs set up. He is eyeing the upcoming World T20 next year in Australia as Pakistan aim to lift their second World T20 title.

“He travels to England regularly and also plays county cricket since last year. So, there are no hurdles for him now,” he concluded.
