Irfan Pathan did not made a good start to India’s 2006 Test tour to Pakistan. He was hardly among the wickets in the first-two Tests in Lahore and Faisalabad respectively. But Irfan Pathan returned back to form picking up his maiden hat-trick in the third Test in Karachi after the first-two matches ended in a draw.
In Karachi, Irfan Pathan wreaked havoc in the first over of the first innings to sent back Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf off the successive deliveries and claim a hat-trick. It was moment to savour for Team India and the left-arm fast-bowler but Mohammad Yousuf saw his worst nightmare come true.

Irfan Khan came from a middle-class background in Vadodara. His father Mehmood Khan Pathan was a jovial character and liked to interact with everyone. Before the tour game, his father caught up with Mohammad Yousuf for a chat. During that time Yousuf told his father to pray that he doesn’t gets dismissed by his son.
“Mohammad Yousuf caught up with my father before the tour. My father is daring, respectful and joyful, loves having chat with everyone. Yousuf said to my father ‘You pray that even if I get out, I don’t get dismissed by your son’,” Irfan recalled in a live interaction on Sports Tak.
“And coming to Karachi Test, I was on hat-trick ball and Mohamamd Yousuf was on strike. I felt that was the perfect chance to get him out. Luckily, my plan successfully worked and I got his wicket,” the former Indian pacer added.
Despite the valiant effort put in by Irfan Pathan, India lost the match by a massive 341 runs margin.
