West Indies National Cricket Team are leaving no stones unturned to make sure they put up an intense fight against the formidable Indian National Cricket Team. After naming a strong squad for both ODIs and T20Is, they have now roped Indian Premier League fame Monty Desai as their batting coach for two years. Batting has been an area of concern for the Caribbeans, and they hope to overcome that in the upcoming series against India.

The last time India toured West Indies just after the ICC World Cup, the host failed to form a resistance against the Indian bowlers. In the recently concluded series against Afghanistan as well, the Caribbeans have not been great with the bat and thus, went down in the shortest format of the game. Cricket West Indies (CWI) will hope Monty Desai to solve the problems and make the batsmen ready for the challenge against India.

Speaking about his appointment, Desai seemed extremely elated with the opportunity. He is looking forward to embracing a new culture and bring the winning environment back like the legacy they enjoyed in the past. Monty Desai has earlier worked as Canada’s head coach at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 and as Afghanistan’s batting coach at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in 2018. Recently, he was UAE’s batting coach at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

“Let me first thank CWI for this incredible opportunity. I am very excited to join a team with such a rich history in the world cricket arena, one that I myself grew up admiring,” Desai said on his appointment. “I am very much looking forward to being part of a journey where I can help to create a winning work environment, learn and embrace a new culture, and build a ‘happy dressing room’ tradition alongside other excellent leaders. I am eager to join forces with Head Coach Phil Simmons and Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams, and our captains, such that I may contribute in every possible way to the success of our team,” he added.
