MS Dhoni is arguably the best Indian captain in the ODIs and probably the second best in the world after Ricky Ponting. However, many critics questioned Dhoni’s leadership qualities in the longer formats. The latest addition to the list is former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly believes Dhoni could have been a better Test captain.
Meanwhile, Ganguly is responsible for the rise of Indian cricket. Under his captaincy, India went to the finals of 2003 ICC World Cup and showed resistance in overseas conditions.
Further, Ganguly instilled a fighting spirit among his players which helped the Indian team later.

Ganguly not impressed with Dhoni’s Test records:
Recently, Ganguly in a chat show with NDTV had to compare among Virat Kohli and Dhoni as the better Test captain. While Ganguly refrained from comparing, he stated that Dhoni could have done better as a Test captain.
“Very difficult to compare, although MS (Dhoni) has been fabulous. MS in the shorter format has been a remarkable captain, fantastic record, may be in the Test format he should have done a bit better,” Ganguly said. “Very difficult to compare, although MS (Dhoni) has been fabulous. However, in 2013 Dhoni broke Ganguly’s record for the most win as a Test captain. Back then, Ganguly lauded Dhoni stating him as the all-time greatest captain of India.
Meanwhile, Dhoni shocked everybody by announcing his retirement from Test cricket in 2014. Further, in 2017 he stepped down from limited-overs captaincy but continues to play in that format.
