Well, just when people are debating whether to include Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the ICC World Cup 2019, here comes a surprising and bold statement from the former skipper of India Mohammad Azharuddin. The classy right-handed batsman quoted that MS Dhoni can be India’s best player in ICC World Cup 2019.

Azharuddin quoted that he likes Mahendra Singh Dhoni personally. He wants him to play for Indian National Cricket Team and deliver the goods for the country. Azhar believes that Dhoni can deliver the assets in the upcoming grand event.

Further, Azharuddin went on to hail Dhoni’s calmness and leadership ability. He feels that Dhoni will lend his support to the Indian skipper Virat Kohli during the crunch situations of the game to make things happen.

He believes Dhoni is integral to India’s chances at the marquee event and someone who captain Virat Kohli can look up to. Dhoni is currently India’s first-choice wicket-keeper but young Rishabh Pant’s recent red-ball performances have seen the 21-year-old become a hot prospect with the World Cup in focus.

I like Dhoni a lot. I feel Dhoni will emerge as India’s No. 1 player in the 2019 World Cup because he has so much experience and we have seen how he marshals the troops from behind the stumps,” Azhar said at India Today Mind Rocks.

“He even guides the bowlers on where to bowl and helps Kohli with the field placements. That makes a huge difference. He is so experienced and the most successful captain till now,” Azhar said.

Recently, Dhoni’s patchy form has bought him under the scanner ahead of the all-important 2019 World Cup. The wicket-keeper batsman has not had the best of times with the willow and has struggled in limited-overs.

Most probably, he would be taking the field for India during the ICC World Cup 2019. Before that, he needs to get into his zone in the upcoming few series. To be precise, he got 13 games left in the kitty, as far as ODI cricket is concerned.
