Afghanistan mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman says tricks of the trade learnt from Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, will come in handy during visitor’s impending inaugural Test against India.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan will play their debut Test against Ajinkya Rahane-led India starting from June 14 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The 17-year-old mystery spinner had a rapid rise in international cricket and will eventually play a crucial role alongside 19-year-old Rashid Khan.

However, Mujeeb admitted he will unleash the mystery ball taught by ace-off spinner Ashwin.

I spent a lot of time with Ashwin at the nets and it was really helpful. He told me spots where to bowl. He has also taught me a new ball and I am trying to learn it. It is a carrom ball with an off-spin action,” Mujeeb told PTI.

The young spinner Mujeeb hasn’t played first-class cricket, however, his stint at the highest level in shorter formats have made him fearless.

I have played high-level cricket already so there is no fear going into the Test. Thanks to the IPL, I know how to handle pressure. I don’t fear playing against any opposition. It used to play on my mind but not anymore,” he added.

Mujeeb has a very effective googly with which he recently outplayed Team India skipper Virat Kohli.

Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai has gone on to say that his spin department is even better when it comes to India.

Having played in IPL, three out of four spinners have a fair idea about Indian pitches.

Will utilise IPL’s experience

Having spent more than a month with Ashwin, Mujeeb is ready to use the gained wisdom from the KXIP leader.

In addition, Mujeeb will bring in all the experience in the Test format.

I have already figured out how to go about my business (during the Test). Virat Kohli is not playing but there are other batsmen like Ajinkya Rahane and Lokesh Rahul who are also very good. We won’t be taking anyone lightly. The good thing is that I have already played against and alongside the big players in the IPL. I will utilise all of that in the Test,” he mentioned.

In conclusion, Mujeeb Ur Rahman admitted that it is a matter of pride for him to represent Afghanistan in their debut Test.
