My Children Cried When They Came to Know About Warner's Suspension from IPL: VVS Laxman

The ball-tampering fiasco involving Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft which unfolded in Cape Town three months ago took the whole cricketing world by storm. Warner and Smith have received love and respect from all across the globe. Hence the incident was a major setback to their fans. They repeatedly asked their fans to forgive them for their misdeed. Cricket Australia was suspended the duo for a year. The incident was truly very difficult for everyone to imagine.

The incident not only affected their national team but also the combination of their respective IPL franchises. While Smith was the captain of Rajasthan Royals, Warner was supposed to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both the franchises qualified for the playoffs and had a different set of performers who rose to the occasion. However, their absence was felt. Warner, in particular, had done a great job for Hyderabad and it was a big blow to them.

Warner led SRH to IPL triumph in 2016

Under Warner’s leadership, Hyderabad lifted the IPL title in 2016. He was an inspirational leader for Hyderabad during his tenure. Warner was also a prolific run scorer in all the seasons he has represented Hyderabad. He has a bundle of runs behind him. The Hyderabad supporters were emotionally connected to him. Hence his omission came as a big shock to them. Despite Kane Williamson taking the tea to the final, they faltered in the final hurdle against Chennai Super Kings. Among them who missed Warner during the IPL was the son and daughter of former India great VVS Laxman.

Sarvajit and Achintya, the children of Laxman where heartbroken when it was learnt that Warner won’t play in IPL 2018. In a show named ‘Breakfast with Champions’, Laxman revealed the condition of his son and daughter after they came to know about the ball-tampering scandal.

He stated that his kids are big fans of Warner and knew what sort of importance Warner had in the Hyderabad set up. Laxman stated that his wards were in tears after seeing the headlines on the newspaper the next day after the tampering incident.  They were also very disappointed when Hyderabad lost the final of IPL 2018 to the Chennai Super Kings.
