The former English skipper, Nasser Hussain came in full support of Test captain Joe Root following mic stunt incident at Headingley in Leeds.

In his column for Daily Mail, Nasser said there is nothing to feel embarrassed on his ‘bat drop’ celebration. He titled his column with, “Carry on Joe Root, I love your feisty attitude!

Nasser stated the England long format captain has nothing to be embarrassed what unfolded during the three-match One-day International series celebration.

What actually happened:

In the third and decider of ODI series at Headingley, Root after hitting the winning runs did the “bat drop” celebration. While hitting the winning run, he also managed to achieve his ton.

We do not lack sportsmanship said, Nasser Hussain:

Nasser made it clear that England does not have the likes for the players who do have lack of sportsmanship and character.

“We do not like it when our sportsmen show a lack of character and personality by talking in cliches or celebrating a landmark in the same conventional way,” he maintained.

Former Skipper defended the act:

Nasser while defending the act of Root questioned why cannot a player show his emotions or a bit of passion in the same way as Root did.

It is worthy to mention that Root was on the verge of being dropped from the ODI team due to his poor performance in the recent past.

However, he made a strong comeback by hitting two consecutive centuries.

I like to see players celebrating – Nasser Hussain:

Nasser further penned it down that he always liked to see a bit of attitude denoted by such celebrations. He said whether Andrew Flintoff’s waving of the shirt in India or in revenge the shirtless celebration of Sourav Ganguly, he loved both of them.

“Joe has always been a character. Look at the interview he did with Ian Ward for Sky after England won the Ashes”, Nasser Hussain further wrote.
