Nasser Hussain, the former England captain-turned commentator, has slammed ‘naive’ and ‘silly’ Jofra Archer for breaching the bio-security protocols which have led to him being omitted from the 13-man squad on the morning of the second Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford.

Archer stopped at his home in Brighton while traveling from Southampton to Manchester, breaching the bio-security protocols under which the current series is being played.

“It is naive and silly to get it wrong because of the effort that’s gone in, and the health risk – this is a serious illness and you cannot risk infecting anyone,” Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports.

“We don’t know if it was just a naivety from Jofra or if it was something more serious. He has apologised, it is a very unusual situation that we all find ourselves in and he’s made a mistake,” he added.

Nasser Hussain added that Jofra Archer’s actions would have left captain Joe Root and his teammates

Archer was named in the 13-man squad after England decided to rest both James Anderson and Mark Wood. And, while the home side hasn’t named his replacement in the squad, Joe Root and the team-management will face more selection headaches while picking the playing XI.

“Captain Root, teammates will be disappointed. His team-mates will be disappointed, as will his captain Joe Root,” Nasser Hussain said.

“(But) cricketers just move on very quickly. More importantly for Joe Root, you park. Once someone’s done something like this on a Test match morning, you completely park that and leave it with management. Joe Root will be focusing on the toss and the team. There are some difficult decisions for Joe Root, not what you need as a captain on the first morning of the Test.” Nasser Hussain said.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer has already released his statement where he apologized for his indiscretion, adding that he has let both the teams down with his actions. Archer will now stay in isolation where he will be tested twice for Covid, the results of which should come positive for him to join the team again.
