Nepal cricket team registered a dramatic one-run win in the last over the second One-day International match in a low-scoring thriller against the Netherlands at Amstelveen to level the two-match series one each.

Meanwhile, the host needed run-a-ball to win the match in the last over and with a solitary wicket in hand. Nepal skipper Paras Khadka (1/24 off six) held his nerve, going for just four runs and executing a run out off the final delivery to secure their debut win in the international cricket.

Netherland required 216 runs to win the game with the visitors making it tough for them with another spirited bowling display. Young sensation, Sandeep Lamichhane returned with three for 40 in his quota of 10 overs.

Furthermore, left-arm bowler Lalit Bhandari took two wickets after conceding 43 runs off nine overs. Well, the slow left-arm bowler Basant Regmi bagged a wicket after giving away 39 runs in 10 overs.

For the hosts, Wesley Barresi played a responsible knock but couldn’t save his team from losing the game. The 34-year-old scored 71 off 89 balls with eight fours as wickets fell around him and runs eventually dried up.

He came to the crease in the eighth over with the score on 30 for two. Barresi put on 84 with opener and Netherlands looked to be cruising until Ter Braak got out.

Bas de Leede and Michael Rippon then fell in quick succession. As a result, captain Pieter Seelaar to stick around with Barresi saw the run-rate creeping up. The match took an interesting turn when Barresi departed to Dipendra Airee with the Netherlands still 74 adrift.

Fred Klaassen (13) and Paul van Meekeren (12*) looked to be steering the Netherlands ever closer to a nail-biting win. However, runs hadn’t come easily during the game and they were unable to overcome Khadka at the last.

Previously, Netherlands seamer Fred Klaassen ripped through the Nepal top-order to take three for 38 from his 10 overs. In removing the top three batsmen he reduced the tourists to 47 for three in the 12th over.

When Dipendra Airee was then run out following a misunderstanding with Khadka and then debutant Rohit Paudel fell to left-arm wrist-spinner Michael Rippon caught behind, Nepal were reeling at 88 for five.

But their skipper held firm and held things together, making a 69-ball 51 that included two sixes and six fours. He fell to his opposite number Seelaar to leave the score at 135 for six.

There was more to come from Nepal, though, as Sompal Kami struck crucial late blows in a 46-ball 61. His knock included three sixes and five fours to help the tourists up to 216 all out.
