When Amelia Kerr scored a fine double hundred against Ireland, New Zealand became the only country with double centurions in Men and Women ODI.

In the 2015 World Cup, Martin Guptill had scored an excellent 237 against the Windies in the Quarterfinals.

In fact, Amelia Kerr became only the second batswoman after Belinda Clark to score a double century in 50-overs format. Australia’s Clark had become the first International cricketer in 1997 to smash a double ton in the ODI version.

Kerr was on fire against Ireland.

Clark had scored a fine unbeaten 229 off 155 balls against Denmark. Consequently, the Black Caps batswoman Kerr became the highest run-getter in an innings in ODI form.

The right-hander Kerr played a blistering knock of unbeaten 232 off just 145 balls in the third and final ODI against Ireland Women.

The Kiwi opener smashed a total of 31 boundaries and two sixes to power her team to 440 runs. Thus, the visitors won by a massive margin of 330 runs after bundling out Ireland for a paltry 135.

Furthermore, Amelia Kerr also scalped a fifer to back her double century.

Surprisingly, Kerr didn’t know about the record of Belinda Clark. “Nope, I hadn’t heard of Belinda Clark [before]. It’s pretty surreal. I had no idea [of the record]. I think I heard them say stuff on the speaker but I didn’t hear them because everyone was clapping. It was nice to get the opportunity to open and get some time out in the middle. I had to work hard at the start. But once I got going, I had a good partnership with Leigh [Kasperek], which allowed me to play how I wanted to play and try and hit boundaries because we weren’t losing wickets,” she said after the game.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar was the first batsman to score a double hundred. India’s Rohit Sharma has scored the double century thrice in the ODI format.
